Obituary

Chrisanthi Tzetzis, 83, of DeWitt, fell asleep in the Lord Tuesday, August 8th at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Drosopigi, Greece she came to the U.S. in 1956 with her husband Nicolaos to live the rest of her life in Syracuse. Upon arriving in Syracuse, Chrisanthi started work at Nettleton Shoes before opening their own grocery store in 1960 with her husband. Nicolaos Grocery eventually became Lexington Market where she worked and they owned until 1993. She instilled love of family, her strong work ethic and love for the U.S. while retaining her Greek traditions and values to her children. Chrisanthi enjoyed cooking, being a seamstress, needlepoint, gardening and getting together with family and friends. She was known for making delicious Spanakopita, Finikia and Tsourekia. Chrisanthi was an active member of St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, finding time to bring her children on Sundays while maintaining the family business. Chrisanthi was a member of Philiptochos Society and Pan-Macadonian Association for many years. She helped many family and friends transition to the United States upon their arrival from Greece. Her pride and joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. Chrisanthi is survived by her son, Chris (Cindy) and their children, Niko (Ivey), Mihali and Zoe; daughter, Dianne (Phil) Molinaro and their daughter, Alexandria; son Spiro (Athena) and their children, Chryssanthi and Aristotelis. She also leaves two siblings, brother Spiro (Anastasia) Mihou and sister Stavroula (Trifon) Styliadis of Syracuse; She was predeceased by her husband Nicolaos, her mother Vasiliki and father Dimitios Mihou. She is also survived by numerous loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Calling hours will be on Friday 4 to 7 p.m. at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home. An Orthodox funeral service will be at St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church, Waring Rd. at 10:00 a.m. Saturday. Contributions may be made to St. Sophia's Greek Orthodox Church.
